C and D to Sir Mark Young's despatch 0.80 of 10th April, 1947, is that Mr.Hsu of the Jardine Engineer ing Corporation Limited, who are acting as agents for the Chinese Coverment in this matter, was present at a meeting at the or office on 12th August 1948. He was informed that the claim for 323,689: 108. supported by Vouchers 003, 004, 006, 007, and co8, was admitted in principle, but only at a revised valuation of £185,847. Thear office were unable to trace a further Voucher 005 for £29,769 to which the Jardine Engineering Caporation have referred. It would appear from the let er from the Corporation dated 26th May, 1946, which appears as Appendix C to Sir Work Young's despatch of 10th April, 1947, that Voucher 005 was in fact lodged with the Accountant-General, Hong Kong, at the same time as the others and I should be gateful for information which might enable this voucher to be traced.
Mr.Heu was to inform his Corporation of the settlement proposed by the War office. A communic: tion has recently been received from him by the ar Office and is now under consideration there.

It has been stated by Matheson and company here that, besides the claims for 323,689 covered by Vouchers 003, 004, 006, 007 and 008 and the ad :itional £29,769 covered by the missing voucher 005, the Jardine Engineering Corporation on behalf of the Chinese Ministry of Communications bad presented to the Hong Kong Government a much larger claim for £915,449, said to be
